Why It Matters

Get the Base Right

Whatever goes on top — tiles, engineered wood, vinyl or carpet — it's only as good as the screed underneath. We lay a flat, solid base to the right depth and falls.

Adding underfloor heating? Screed encases the pipes and spreads the heat evenly. We'll lay it to suit your system and finish.

Floor Screeding FAQs

What's the difference between sand & cement and liquid screed?
Traditional sand & cement is hand-laid, robust and good for smaller areas. Liquid (flow) screed self-levels, dries flatter, works brilliantly over underfloor heating and goes down fast over large areas. We'll suit it to the job.
Can you screed over underfloor heating?
Yes — screeding over UFH pipes is one of the best uses for flow screed: it flows around the pipes with no voids and conducts heat efficiently. We set the right depth over the pipes for performance.
How long before I can tile or floor over it?
You can usually walk on it in 24–48 hours; for floor coverings, sand & cement traditionally needs about a day per mm of thickness, while liquid screeds can be force-dried faster. We'll give you a realistic timeline.
Can you level an old uneven floor?
Yes — we lay a levelling screed or self-levelling compound over a sound subfloor to take out dips and falls, ready for tiles, vinyl, laminate or carpet.
What depth of screed do I need?
It depends on the build-up — bonded screeds can be 25–40mm, while floating or insulated screeds over UFH are usually 50–75mm. We'll work out the right depth for your floor make-up.
