Why It Matters

The Right System for Your Home

Traditional sand & cement is hard-wearing and cost-effective; modern silicone systems are flexible, breathable, self-coloured and shrug off dirt and algae. We'll match the right one to your property.

Good rendering is as much about preparation and detailing as the topcoat — we get the beads, joints and weatherlines right so it lasts.

Rendering FAQs

What's the difference between sand & cement and silicone render?
Sand & cement is traditional, tough and cost-effective but can crack and needs painting. Silicone thin-coat systems are flexible, breathable, self-coloured and shrug off rain and algae — dearer upfront but very low-maintenance. We'll advise which suits your wall.
Can you render over old pebbledash?
Often yes — if it's solid and well-keyed we can render over it to modernise the look; where it's loose or hollow it's better hacked off first. We'll check it before quoting.
Will the render crack?
Mixed, beaded and applied in the right conditions, it shouldn't. We use the correct system for the wall, fit stress beads around openings, and on movement-prone walls use flexible silicone systems that move without cracking.
Does the weather affect external rendering?
Yes — we won't render in frost, heavy rain or strong direct sun, as it ruins the cure. We plan external work around the forecast so it goes off properly and lasts.
How long does external render last?
A well-applied silicone render can look good for 20–25 years with minimal upkeep; sand & cement lasts well too but may need repainting every few years. Good detailing at sills and edges is what makes it last.
